| The Somnath Temple located in the Prabhas Kshetra near Veraval in Saurashtra, on the western coast of Gujarat, India is one of the twelve Jyotirlings (lingas of light) symbols of the God Shiva. It is mentioned in the Rig Veda[1]. Somnath means "The Protector of Moon God". The Somnath Temple is known as 'the Shrine Eternal', as although the temple has been destroyed six times it has been rebuilt every single time. | In the Mahabharata, Dvaraka (Dvārakā, also known as Dvāravatī, both names meaning "the many-gated [city]" in Sanskrit; sometimes transcribed as Dwaraka, Dwaravati) is the capital of the Yadavas who ruled the Anarta Kingdom.[1] The city was situated on the western point of Gujarat, and is submerged in the sea in book 16.
It was founded by a clan of
Yadava chiefs who fled from the
Surasena Kingdom out of fear of king
Jarasandha of
Magadha. The territory of Dwaraka included the Dwaraka Island,
many neighbouring islands like the Antar Dwipa and the mainland
area neighbouring the
Anarta Kingdom. |

Ambaji (Hindi: अम्बाजी) is a census town in Banaskantha district in the state of Gujarat, India. Ambaji is an important temple town with millions of devotees visiting the Ambaji temple every year. It is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths. Ambaji mata temple is a major Shakti Peeth of India. It is situated at a distance of approximately 65 kilometers from Palanpur and 45 kilometers from Mount Abu and 20 kilometers from Abu Road near the Gujarat and Rajasthan border. The original seat of Ambaji mata is on gabbar hilltop in the town. A large number of devotees visit the temple every year specially on Purnima days. A large mela on Bhadarvi poornima (full moon day) is held. Ambaji town is known for possessing mines which produce fine quality marble and granite. |

Surat District. As of 2007, Surat and its metropolitan area had a
population of approximately 4 million. It is the second largest city in
Gujarat and ninth largest in India.[1]
The city is situated on the left bank of the
Tapti River, 14 miles from its mouth. A moat divides the older parts
of the city, with its narrow streets and handsome houses, and the newer
suburbs. The city is largely recognized for its textile and diamond
businesses. 92% of the world's diamonds are cut and polished in Surat.
Surat is also considered a relatively clean city in India. It has one of
the highest GDP growth rates in India at 11.5% as of 2008. Surat was the
primary port of India during the

Rajkot was the capital of the erstwhile Saurashtra state from 15 April 1948 to 31 October 1956 before merging in bilingual Bombay State on 1 November 1956. Rajkot was merged into Gujarat State from bilingual Bombay state on May 1, 1960. |
